  • The Public Works Department is located at 6725 Wayne Avenue The department is open from 7 am until 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday. We can be reached at 856-663-0178 or by email at Public Works.

  • Trash is collected once a week. Your trash collection day is the same as your recyclable collection day.

  • Residents can put out up to two bulk items a week on their regular trash/recycling collection day. You must then contact our Public Works Department at 856-663-0178 or email Public Works the day before pickup and let us know your address and what is being left at the curb. Our staff will then come out and pick up your bulk item on your scheduled collection day.

  • No, you do not. Pennsauken participates in what is called “single-stream recycling”. All recyclable material may be placed in your yellow recyclable bucket.

    • Monday: The trash district is completely northwest of Westfield Avenue and northwest of Route 130, between its connection with Westfield Avenue to the Pennsauken border with Cinnaminson, as well as specific portions of 36th Street/Amon Avenue/42nd Street/Westfield Avenue.
    • Tuesday: The area east of Route 130, stopping at Cove Road; continuing to the Cherry Hill, Camden City and Collingswood borders.
    • Wednesday: Yard debris collection for the entire town. This is also the pickup day for white goods. White goods pickup must be scheduled by 1 pm on Tuesday for Wednesday pickup.
    • Thursday: The area of town between Westfield Avenue and Route 130. It runs from the connection point of Westfield Avenue and Route 130 all the way down to the Camden border, including a portion of Westfield Avenue/42nd Street/Camden Avenue/36th Street.
    • Friday: The balance of the town is located east of Route 130, north of Cove Road, up to the Burlington County and Cherry Hill Township borders.

  • Bring your damaged bucket to Public Works (6725 Wayne Ave.) and it will be replaced. If you are a new resident, you may come to the Public Works Department at 6725 Wayne Ave. and upon showing proof of residence you will be given a recycling bucket.

  • All streets in every neighborhood are swept during the spring summer and early fall months. There is no set schedule for street sweeping.

  • Snow plowing begins as soon as possible to keep the removal process manageable. The roads are salted as needed and plowed as often as needed depending on the size of the event. It is best to place your car off the street in your driveway. If this is not possible please speak with your neighbors and agree to park on one side of the street. This will allow for more efficient plowing. The primary goal is to provide access to emergency vehicles.

  • Residents are encouraged to bag their leaves for collection by our waste removal contractor. Yard debris including leaves will be picked up throughout the year if placed in bags weighing less than 50 lbs. Yard debris is collected every Wednesday. During Leaf Collection Season every area is swept clean of leaves at least once prior to December 31.

  • Abandoned cars on the street are under the jurisdiction of the Pennsauken Police 856-488-0080. Abandoned cars off the street are under the jurisdiction of Code Enforcement 856-665-1000, ext. 134).

  • The Township's priority is arterial streets (larger residential streets that feed the smaller residential streets). A repair on an arterial street that carries hundreds of vehicles daily will take priority over a small residential street that carries far fewer vehicles. Remember, all potholes on Pennsauken Township roads need to be repaired, and every pothole reported will be fixed. There are several county roads that run through our town, which are the responsibility of Camden County. You can find a list of County Roads in Pennsauken on the Public Works link. You can report a pothole on a County Road by calling the Camden County Public Works hotline at 856-566-2980

  • Potholes occur when street pavement cracks and breaks because of water or traffic. Water works its way under the pavement through various cracks. The compacted dirt/material under the pavement erodes because of the water, causing a portion of the road to sink down and break apart. During the winter months, especially ones with a lot of rainfall, this seeping water can freeze and expand, and then contract when it thaws. This constant freezing and thawing makes the pavement crack and then the weight of cars/trucks/busses further weakens the road surface.

  • The materials used to patch a pothole don't bond well to the surrounding pavement when it's cold or wet, that's why most road repaving and repairs are completed in the warmer weather months. Due to our safety responsibility, we cannot wait for a nice day to make repairs. If we cannot repair it, we will block off the area to maintain safety.

  • Repaving the entire street is the best method to eliminate the occurrence of potholes. Due to the expense of repaving a road, patches made in between a road's life-span is the economical way to maintain safety and prevent the rest of the road from being affected.

  • No. Just as with opposite-sex couples, so long as your out-of-state marriage is consistent with the laws and public policy of New Jersey, your marriage is valid and recognized in this State and you will not need to enter into a New Jersey marriage.

  • If either partner is a resident of New Jersey, the marriage license must be obtained from the Registrar of Vital Statistics in the municipality where either partner lives. If one partner is a non-resident of New Jersey and the other partner is a resident of New Jersey, the license must be obtained from the Registrar in the municipality in which the partner resides in New Jersey. (For marriage license purposes, soldiers are residents of the posts at which they are stationed.) A license issued under either of the preceding circumstances is good for use anywhere in New Jersey. If both partners are nonresidents of New Jersey, the license must be obtained from the Registrar of the municipality where the ceremony is to be performed and is only good for use in that municipality. A license may never be used outside of New Jersey and a license issued in another state may never be used in New Jersey. Be sure to contact the Registrar well in advance of the wedding to find out on what days and during what hours the Registrar will be in the office.

    The license fee is $28.

  • A local Registrar will not issue a license sooner than 72 hours after the application for a marriage license has been made unless ordered to do so via an appropriate court order. If the marriage is scheduled for a Saturday or Sunday, the application should be made no later than the preceding Tuesday. If the application is made on a Wednesday or Thursday, the 72 hours will end on Saturday or Sunday, but the Registrar will probably not be available on those days or any public holiday. If both partners are unavailable to complete the application at the same time, either applicant may complete his/her part of the application and start the waiting period. The other applicant must return with the same witness (who must be at least 18 years old) to complete his/her part of the application. Both parties must complete the application before the license will be issued. Once the license is issued, it is good for 30 days from the date of issuance.   • A witness must be at least 18 years of age.

    Two forms of identification, preferably a birth certificate and one photo ID. For example, you may use a birth certificate, state-issued driver's license, employment-issued ID, a passport, a voter's registration card, or a U.S. military card.

    Both individuals in the qualifying couple will provide their Social Security numbers (Married Persons Title 37:117).

    Consent of both parents is necessary if an applicant is under 18 years of age. Both parental consent and judicial approval of such consent are necessary if the applicant is younger than 16.

    These consents should be on forms supplied by the Registrar.

  • The officiant performing the ceremony must file the license and marriage certificate with the Registrar of the municipality in which the marriage was performed. Since failure to record the marriage may cause considerable inconvenience at a later date when proof of marriage is needed, you should make sure that this has been done. Certified copies of the marriage event may be obtained from the local Registrar in the municipality where the ceremony occurred or from the Office of the State Registrar of Vital Statistics.

    FARS Application Procedures for Applicants

    First-time applicants can contact the FARS clerk (Elizabeth Oquendo) at 856-488-0080, ext. 2100 for additional information and assistance regarding the process

    Visit this website. You Must enter the site address as follows: Firearms Application and Registration System Website

    When you log on, you must enter the Pennsauken Township Police Department's ORI Number: NJ0042700

    Step 3

    Complete the online application. You may complete the application using a smartphone, mobile device, laptop, or desktop computer.

    When deciding how many permits you would like to get, remember:

    • One permit is required for each handgun you wish to purchase (each permit is $2)
    • You can purchase one handgun in 30 days
    • Permits are good for up to 180 days (with renewal after 90 days)
    • If you decide you want another handgun permit, and you didn't get more than one initially, you will need to apply again.

    Step 4

    You will need to submit payment at the Police department for your permits and, if applicable, the Firearms ID card. Permits to Purchase handguns are $2 for each permit and $5 for the ID card.

    • You will be receiving automated email updates throughout this new process.
    • Once your application is complete, a station representative will contact you to retrieve your Electronic ID card and Electronic Permits, everything is now online and electronic. However, you will need to print out your Electronic ID card as soon as you get the email confirmation it is approved and ready to use.
    • Please advise your references that the FARS system will email them the reference questions to be answered. Your references can complete the questions using a smartphone, mobile device, laptop, or desktop computer. Please advise them to complete the questions immediately to progress your background investigation. The online application is applicant-driven. Please ensure that you have entered the best phone numbers for yourself and your references as well as the best email addresses for yourself and references.

    The system will notify you that your ID card and/or permits are ready, but the paperwork may still be in the chief's office for signature.

  • Pennsauken municipal court usually has 75-100 people scheduled for each court session.  Keep in mind, although it is not in-person, it is no different than being in a building with about 75-100 people.  Once you are checked in, the prosecutor will speak with you and then your case will go to the judge.  Please be patient.

  • A survey is needed for all zoning applications. Surveys need to be in architectural scale. The scale is the number used to measure your property and the structures. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to contact their surveyor if the survey scale is not correct. 

    Surveys should be on the scale of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60... if your survey IS NOT UP TO SCALE, please contact your surveyor.

    Pools need to be 15ft away from the foundation of the home. 

    Pools need to be 5ft away from any other structures such as sheds, gazebo, decks etc., and a certain amount of feet from the fence/property line.

    To calculate how far a pool should be from the property line, calculate the depth of your pool in feet and multiple by 1.5.

    • Example: If a pool’s depth is 48 inches divide by 12 since there are 12 inches in a foot. Multiply by 1.5 and that will give you how far your pool should be from the property line. (48/12x1.5= 6ft away from the property line.)

    Concrete/ decorative rocks /walkways around pools also need to be 5ft away from structures.

    The pool application fee is a $20 zoning fee as well as construction fees.

  • Yes, fences are not allowed in the front of the home. If you have an existing fence in the front of the home, you are able to replace same for same, which means same height and material, we will need a before and after picture to confirm replacement. If you are changing the material, a permit is needed. If you don’t have an existing fence in front of the home, you will need to come to the Zoning Board for a variance. 

    Fences in the side and back yards need a permit unless you are replacing same for same. If you go up in height or change the material, it needs a permit. Please be advised that a survey is always needed for the zoning department. If ever in doubt if you need a permit, please contact us first and don’t do the work to avoid penalties.

    Fence permit fee is $50.

  • Yes, concrete for the driveway must be 4 inch thick and for the apron 6 inch thick.

    Concrete /asphalt/ gravel etc. should never cover the whole grass area of your home as it is important to have grass since it prevents flooding. If in doubt about how much concrete you are allowed in your lot, please contact us first for advice.

  • All accessory structures require a permit. 

    Sheds, garages, gazebos, pergolas etc. are considered accessory structures to a single or 2 family home.  

    Accessory structures need to be placed 5ft away from the property lines and 5ft away from other structures and pools, spas etc. 

    Accessory structures cannot be over 16ft in height.

    If the accessory structure is…

    • Under 200 sq ft it needs a zoning permit, and the permit fee is $50.
    • From 200 sq ft to 400 sq ft it needs a zoning and building permit, and the construction fee. (Zoning department cannot advise on construction fees)
    • Any accessory structure over 400 sq ft needs a variance which means it would need to come to the Zoning Board.

    • 8 sq ft to 25 sq ft the permit fee is $25
    • 25 sq ft to 100 sq ft the permit fee is $75
    • Over 100 sq ft the permit fee is $100, and a liability insurance policy and license will be required
