FARS Application Procedures for Applicants 

First time applicants can contact the FARS clerk Tressa Cuevas at 856-488-0080 ext.2400.

Firearms ID and Permits to Purchase a Handgun

Firearms Website:  https://www.njportal.com/NJSP/fars 

  • Have your information ready to avoid timing out on the website

Purpose of Application Options: 

  • Initial Firearms Purchaser Identification Card - First time applying $50
    • Renewal every 10 years
  • E-Permits to Purchase a Handgun $25 each
    • Permits are electronic and active upon approval: You have 90 days to purchase a firearm with (1) additional 90 day renewal. This is a total of 180 days to purchase a firearms
    • One (1) Permit is required for each Firearms
    • You can purchase (1) Handgun every 30 days (not required for long arms)
  • Change of Address on Identification Card
    • Drivers License Must Reflect New Address Change
  • Change of Sex on Identification Card
  • Change of Name of Identification Card
    • Electronic Firearms Purchase Identification Card (for Duplicate or Lost Identification Card or for Renewal)
  • Register Handgun(s) Transferred with Change of Residency to New Jersey

Personal Information: All Former Names and Name Aliases

  • Your name must be exactly as it appears on your government document (i.e Driver’s License)

Fingerprinting:  Fingerprinting appointment must be made within 90 days of application submission. If you have been fingerprinted for Firearms provide your SBI #

References: (2) Contact information: Address, Email and Phone Number

  • CANNOT Live in the same household
  • Please inform your references that they will receive an email from the FARS system with question to answer.
  • If you made a mistake with your references DO NOT submit another application. Contact FARS clerk Tressa Cuevas 856-488-0080 ext. 2400

Employer Information: If Employed

Address History: for the last 10 years

Change of Name application: Copy of Supporting Marriage License or Court Order (in any of these formats: PDF, JPG, JPEG, PNG, TIFF and TIF)

Alien Registration Number: If not US Citizen

Additional Information

  • Payment must be made at the Pennsauken Police Department 2ndFloor
    1. Exact Cash or Money Order only
    2. APPLICATION IS NOT CONSIDERED COMPLETE UNTIL ALL DOCUMENTS AND PAYMENT ARE RECEIVED.
  • Once application is submitted additional handgun permits cannot be added/deleted.  You will have to reapply.
  • Automated email updates are sent throughout the process.
  • Upon approval you will need to print out your Electronic Firearms Identification Card as soon as you get the email confirmation. 
  • This application is driven by the applicant. Please ensure all information is correct before clicking “Submit” as there are NO REFUNDS

Carrying A Concealed Weapon (CCW) Application

The Conceal Carry Application is now electronic. 

Please follow the below instructions for applying in the New Jersey Firearms Reporting System. F.A.R.S.

NJ Residents: If you reside in a State Police jurisdiction or a Local Police Department jurisdiction, you must contact that State Police Station or Local Police Department for all assistance.

Dual Residents: If you are a dual resident of another state in addition to the State of New Jersey, you must apply to the jurisdiction you reside within New Jersey.

Out of State Applicants: If you live outside of the State of New Jersey and are not a dual resident, your application will be automatically assigned to one of 18 NJSP Stations upon submission. You will be notified of which NJSP Station your application was assigned to via your application confirmation email.

Requirements for Conceal Carry Permit

  • Personal Information: Including all former names and name aliases
  • SBI Number: if you have previously been fingerprinted for firearms
  • References: (4) You’ve known for 3+years NO FAMILY BY BLOOD OR LAW and cannot live/reside in the same household.
    1. Address, email address, and phone number 
  • Employer Information: if employed
  • Past Residential Address History: If you have resided outside New Jersey in the last 10 years
    1. If you have lived outside of the state of New Jersey in the last ten (10) years, please fill out form SP-066 (Consent for Mental Health Records) and upload it to your application.
  • Alien Registration Number: if not a US Citizen
  • Firearms Information: to be carried 
  • Upload: One currentphotograph (Must include head and shoulders).  No sunglasses or hat. 
    1. No photographs of ID’s or photographs of pictures 
  • Competed Training:  C.C.A.R.E training record completed within the past two (2) years, instructor name, instructors’ credentials and qualification date

Submission for Conceal Carry Permit

Once you have obtained all the required documents, visit https://www.njportal.com/NJSP/ConcealedCarry/

  • Application Fee: $68 online application fee 
  • Upload: required documents and photograph
  • Processing Fee: Once you have submitted your application, 
    1. Stop by the Pennsauken Police Dept. 2ndFloor and submit:

Communication
